Obituary
Mr. Aleck Franklin Sewell, age 76, of Gravely Road, Calhoun passed away Friday, February 23, 2018, at Gordon Hospital.
He was born January 6, 1942, son of the late Leonard A. Sewell and Helen McGhin Sewell. Mr. Sewell was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired veteran of the United States Navy and also retired from Galey and Lord. Aleck was a member of the Sugar Valley Lodge #733, past Master of Shannon Lodge #100, Chattooga Lodge #704, Sugar Valley Lodge #733, and honorary member at several Masonic Lodges. He was preceded in death by his parents and birth mother, Hester Haney Fuller; wife and mother of his children, Sarah Freeman Sewell; and brothers, Pat Sewell and James Jackson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn Cornwell Sewell of Calhoun; children, James (Wendi) Sewell of Rome, Stephen Sewell of Calhoun, and Kevin Sewell of Calhoun, Pamela (William) Carver of Calhoun, Melinda Holley of Ringgold, and Steven (Lynette) Cornwell of Calhoun; brothers, Eugene (Melba) Sewell and Max (Joyce) Sewell; sisters, Glenda (Herman) Freeman, Clara (Willie) Hicks, Diane (Stephen) Nelson, and Marie (Ricky) Cochran; 9 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 2:00 PM, at Union Grove Baptist Church, Adairsville, with the Rev. David Baker and Rev. Joel Alexander officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full masonic rites and military honors. Pallbearers include Sydney Sewell, Eddie Sewell, Jerry Hicks, Michael Hicks, Bruce Hicks, and Jeff Freeman. Honorary pallbearers include Sugar Valley Masonic Lodge and masons of surrounding lodges.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
