Obituary

Mr. Alfred B. Harris, SR, age 84, of Adairsville went home to be with his Lord on June 26, 2026.

Alfred was born in Adairsville, Georgia, June 24, 1942, son of the late, Flora Cargile Harris and Raymond S. Harris. He was also greeted in heaven by his beloved wife, Linda Self Harris; son, Allen Laray Harris; brothers, Junior Harris, Richard Harris, Hugh Harris, Doyle Harris, Carl Harris, Frank Harris, Jimmy Harris, Benny Harris and Billy Harris; sisters, Mary Smith, Irene “Sis” King, and Ella Mae Jackson.

He is survived by his son, Brad and Kathy Harris; daughters, Beverly and Herod Moore, Brandy Cobb, and Jennifer and Jeff Crawford; daughter-in-law, Marsha Harris; grandchildren, Latasha Montgomery (Matt), Preston White (Kayla), Deana Blair (Blake), LaRay Harris (Holly), Loren Smith (Colby), Herod Moore (Maggie), Ethan Moore (Morgan), Christian Shinall, Courtney Long (Cody), Tiara Allen, Jessie D. Allen (Hannah) and Justin Crawford (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Blair and Harper Montgomery, Paisley Lillian and Elyn White, Cheyenne and Sierra Blair, Dawson and Jocie Harris; Gavin, Gunner, Reece, Sadie, and Ty Moore, Everleigh Allen, Wesley and Taylor Crawford, and Waylon, Hank, and Beau Long; several nieces and nephews.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division, he carried a lifelong spirit of service and dedication into his civilian career as an exceptional craftsman and entrepreneur. As the owner and operator of Harris Welding, he designed and fabricated complex industrial containers and specialized machinery, most notably a pioneering carpet oven. His expertise with the company took him on adventures across the globe, bringing his work to countries as diverse as Colombia, China, and Egypt. In 1972, Mr Harris was instrumental in the construction of the MarChem Southeast, INC. facility in Adairsville. In his later years, he cofounded QuickFlash Lube along with Jerry Fuller, creating a successful business and welcoming local fixture where he truly loved to sit and visit with coworkers clients and friends after his retirement. He also remained deeply connected to his military roots through his active membership in both the VFW and the American Legion.

Alfred was an avid enthusiast of life’s simple pleasures—whether he was watching television, pulling for the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, or catching the latest NASCAR race—his greatest passion was always his family. Affectionately known as “Papa” and “Papaw” by his grandchildren, he placed his loved ones above all else. He leaves behind a rich legacy defined by hard work, global adventure, and an unwavering devotion to the people who meant the most to him.

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Pinkard and Mr. Ken Carson officiating.
