Obituary

Mrs. Alice Belle Culpepper passed away at a local medical center May 24, 2016. She was born in the Snow Springs community on September 22, 1930, to the late Tom Higgins and Nora Jane Freeman Higgins.

She was a graduate of Adairsville High School Class of 1948 and attended North Georgia Business School. She married the love of her life, Guy Culpepper, on June 4, 1948. She was a member of Snow Springs Baptist Church most of her life, but attended Rush Chapel Methodist at the time of her death. At the age of twelve her mother taught her how to sew, and she became a wonderful seamstress. All of her life she enjoyed making her children's clothes, wedding apparel, graduations dresses, and special costumes. She was a poultry farmer for 35 years and drove a Floyd County School Bus for two years. She belonged to the Woodward Valley Floyd County Homemakers Club, serving as chairperson for one year, and also the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Culpepper loved hats and always wore one to church every Sunday.

One of her dearest friends was Margaret Gaylor, who was such an inspiration to her. Another lifelong friend and classmate was the late Dimple Thornbrough, who was also a part of the Saturday night Uno Team. Many knew her for her outstanding cakes; she baked them for friends, loved ones, and donated them to the Model Johnson Foundation. She called herself the "Cake Missionary". She loved quilting, gardening, canning and freezing her vegetables, and never missed a Saturday night of family Uno. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guy Bon Culpepper; son, Steven Culpepper; brother, Hershel Higgins; sisters, Beatrice Camp, Mattie Lee Bell, and Polly Hyde; special nephews, Dean Higgins and Wayne Clark.

Survivors include her two loving daughters, Faye Darby Laney (Jim) of Adairsville and Jane Culpepper Cammer of Armuchee; grandchildren, Carla (Greg) Saunders, Jennifer (Dereck) Bright, Libby (Shawn) Mines, Tovah ( Blain) Hawkins, and Terrin Cammer; greatgrandchildren, Greer, Barrett, and Braden Saunders, Ethan Bright, Zack and Dillon Mines, Spencer Couch, Kinsley Hawkins, and Terinity Crammer; Step-grandchildren, Josh Laney and Jayme (Kristy) Laney; step-greatgrandchildren, Lauren, Matthew, Max, Hensley, and Hayden Laney; sister, Janelle Alexander of Rome; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 2016, at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Reverends Bobby Stevens, Larry Russell, and Valerie Loner officiating and Jim Laney providing her eulogy. Interment will follow at Snow Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include Steve Camp, Mark Thornbrough, Barry, Brent, and Danny Higgins, Greg Clark and Seth Laney. Honorary pallbearers include Norman Bailey, Wallace Clark, Jerry and Ted Thornbrough, Lamar Camp, Hamp Alexander, Jr, Greg Alexander, John D. and Inez Hooker, Virgil and Wylene Bailey and Earl and Joyce Culberson.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Barton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in honor of Mrs. Culpepper to Rush Chapel United Methodist Church, 1225 Rush Chapel Road, NE, Rome, Georgia 30161.
