Obituary

Allen Gray Terrill, 91, son of Alta Mae Cope Terrill and John Richmond Terrill, was born on September 29, 1928 and died on June 12, 2020. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy Turner Terrill, sisters Evelyn Cope and Clara Mae Terrill, brothers Herman (Hazel), Richmond Cole, and Ray N. Terrill, son-in-law David M. Reed, sisters and brothers-in-law Eva and Virgil Morris, Virginia Turner, Sue Turner, John Turner Jr., Harold Turner, Joe Arp and Jim Venable.

He is survived by daughters Charlotte Reed, Deborah (Don) Cooley, and Regina Wheeler; granddaughters Catherine Wheeler and Bayleh Reed (Sammy) Geno; grandsons Canon Wheeler and Nash Reed; sisters Marjorie Venable and Madge (Vinson) Tate; sisters-in-law Eloise Terrill, Claudia Arp and Marilyn Turner; brother-in-law Eugene Turner; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-grandchildren.

As a boy, Mr. Terrill had an intriguing life when he spent time between Perry, Florida and the Everglades, at his father's logging business, up until they moved to Adairsville, Georgia, where he lived the remainder of his life. He served in the U.S. Army, where he was a decorated sharpshooter. He worked for General Electric in Rome, Georgia, was a cattle farmer, and then later ran his successful pulp-wood business. In his retirement, he built a one-man sawmill from a photo he saw in a trade magazine. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting deer, turkey, wild boar, dove and quail; and he enjoyed sharing this craft with others. He loved to dance and play cards. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19, 2020 at R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:30 am. Immediately following will be a graveside service at East View Cemetery in Adairsville, Georgia with the Reverend Richard Webster officiating.

Pallbearers: Eddie Terrill, Harry Terrill, Chuck McStotts, Larry Arp, Michael Tate, and Herb Brackin.
Honorary pallbearers: Gordon Bradley, Doyle Adcock, Harvey Herod, and Tony Gunn.
