Obituary
Mrs. Annie Mae Chatmon Smith passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
Mrs. Smith was born in Bartow County, Georgia, May 6, 1930, and was the daughter of the late William Bascom Chatmon and Josie Ann Rice Chatmon. Mrs. Smith was a member of Snow Springs Baptist Church in Adairsvile, GA. She was a caregiver to many local children including her grandchildren and god-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith loved the Lord and her family and had a heart full of love for all the people she knew. Annie Mae married Arnold H. Smith on November 9, 1951 who predeceased her on April 15, 1993. Annie Mae was also preceded in death by her siblings: Clark Chatmon, Arvel Chatmon, Maurice Chatmon, Adel Chatmon, Mable Smith, Aileen Williams & Elease Nicholson and her granddaughter Lindsey Shay Smith.
Annie Mae is survived by her children Phillip (Lynn) Smith of Adairsville, Audrey Benefield of Adairsville, Connie S. (Jeff) Summey of Cartersville and Karen (Jamie) Coffman of Summerville. Mrs. Smith is survived by her grandchildren: Zachary (Tammy) Smith of White, Adam Pasley of Adairsville, Jarred (Beth) Summey of Rydal, Jarica Summey, Cartersville, Cole & Matthew Benefield of Adairsville, and Treyton & Barrett Coffman of Summerville. Mrs. Smith is survived by one great grandchild, Chandler Smith of White. Annie Mae is survived by her only living sibling, Bertha (Harold) Earwood of Adairsville. Mrs. Smith is also survived by a goddaughter, Debbie Cagle of Shannon and god-grandchildren, Erin, Emily and Ethan Cagle of Shannon. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Keith Reed and Pastor Doyle Kelley at Snow Springs Baptist Church in Adairsville on Friday November 11, 2011 at 3:00 pm. The body will lie in state at the church from 2:00 pm until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Grandchildren and god-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers as well as nephews David Chatmon and Chris Hall.
The family will receive friends Thursday November 10, 2011 at Barton Funeral Home in Adairsville from 6 – 9 pm.
