Mrs. Barbara Ann Pope Neal, age 70, of 109 Kuhlman Street, Adairsville, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at her daughter's residence, Summerville.

Mrs. Neal was born in Dekalb County, GA, March 9, 1941, daughter of the late George Washington and Mary Agnes Hammock Pope. She had worked as a special education parenting instructor for the City of Atlanta-Fulton County Government in addition to raising her family as a homemaker. An avid reader, Mrs. Neal was an advocate and volunteer for promoting literacy. She also enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a son Glenn "Marty" Neal.

Survivors include 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Kurt Miller of Adairsville, Marla and John Kirby of Cartersville, and Cathy and Michael Stancil of Summerville; 2 brothers, Idus Pope of Greene County, and Ronald Pope of Jackson; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Kelly, Danny Duffey, Nicholas Miller, Thomas Duffey, Amanda Davis, Jacob Morris, and David Johnson; several stepgrandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a special companion, her shih Tzu, Tiny Tim "Timmy" Neal, also survive.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 1, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held, Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 12:00 PM from Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, GA, where her daughters will serve as pallbearers.
