William T. Harris, Jr., known to everyone as "Coach Bill Harris" of Adairsville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 11, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born in Cobb County, GA, August 22, 1937, son of the late William T. Harris, (Pee-We) and Eula Irene Bunch Harris. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred J. (Jack) Harris and Johnny Harris.
Bill was a faithful member of the Adairsville Baptist Church, Deacon, guitar player, and the best gravy and grit maker for the Brotherhood breakfast. He was a member and past president of the Adairsville Tiger Club, Adairsville Lions Club, and Adairsville Brass Band. He was retired from the printing industry. Bill was a true pillar of the community, known to most as "Coach Bill". Along with a few others he helped start the Adairsville recreational football league in 1965, for 40 years he was passionate about coaching young boys, mainly ages 10 -12. You would also see him at the Adairsville High School football games on the sidelines or in the press box. In honor of his dedication to our community and the impact he made on many lives, the park at Rex Moncus Field was named Coach Bill Harris Park. He was a diehard Georgia Bulldogs fan, enjoyed working with cattle, watching any sports, and absolutely loved mowing grass. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; to know him was to love him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maggie Sue Pack Harris; daughters, Linda Sue Mealer (Greg), and Anita K. Gulledge (Budge); grandchildren, Charly Abston (Jake), Randy William Waldo (Jenna), Amery Gulledge (Ashley), Brody Gulledge (Kaitlin), Ridge Gulledge; great-grandchildren, Ethan Goss, Maggie Goss, Lexi Waldo, Jordan Waldo, Hailey Peppers, Chloe Peppers, Rylan Gulledge, Cayson Gulledge, Talon Gulledge, Ila Gulledge, Keagan Gulledge, Olivia Gulledge, Aero Gulledge, and Aris Gulledge; brother, Doug and Betty Harris; sister, Nettie and Paul Denova; brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM from the Adairsville Baptist Church with Reverend Eric Sorrell, Stephen Cochran, and Michael Hunt officiating. The body will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include Randy Waldo, Jacob Abston, Amery Gulledge, Brody Gulledge, Ridge Gulledge, and Alfred Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Bill's past football players.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
The family ask for all those attending the service please wear your red or green and gold in honor of Bill's love for the Georgia Bulldogs and Adairsville Tigers.
