Mr. George Bradley Lanham, age 76, succumb to cancer January 4, 2019 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 28, 1942 in Adairsville, Georgia to George and Helen Cochran Lanham, who precede him in death.
Bradley attended Adairsville High School and was in the carpet industry early in his career.
He retired from the Bartow County Government after 20 years. Prior to his illness, he worked at Ace Hardware in Adairsville, and enjoyed his job greatly. He loved watching football, baseball, American Idol, and anything with Carrie Underwood. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his yard, and cooking for others. He had a servant's heart and tended to many family members and friends during their time of need. He always had a smile and could make you laugh in almost any situation.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, but attended services at Stoner Chapel Baptist Church. Bradley sang gospel music throughout his life as a high tenor. He had 7 professional recordings with The Joyfularies, The Deep South Boys, The Anchormen, and One Touch. He had played the piano and organ by ear and was the organist for Stoner Chapel Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Sarah Williams Lanham; daughters, Renee (Dennis) Wolk and Michelle (Carl) Strickland; grandchildren, Joshua Castleberry, Jordan Castleberry (Megan Abbott), Reeves Whitener, and Reagan Whitener(Israel Dover); great-grandson, Lucas Kole Dover; brother, Claude Earl Lanham; aunt, Beulah Mae Brown and several cousins; step-children, Perry (Val) Williams, Aaron (Jamie) Williams, and Amanda (Brett) Davis and their families also survive. Bradley was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone who met him.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Stoner Chapel Baptist Church, Adairsville with Reverends James Surratt, Earl Abernathy, and Stephen Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Music will be provided by Kenneth Stepp and the Stoner Chapel Church Choir. A variety of songs from his recordings will be played at the service. He gave strict instructions that he wanted to have the last word.
Pallbearers include Joshua Castleberry, Jordan Castleberry, Reeves Whitener, Israel Dover, Aaron Williams, and Brett Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Abernathy, Eugene Brown, Howard Cochran, Jr., Dillard Abernathy, DB Leatherwood, Fred Painter, Norman Parker, Rayden Parker, Carl Gay, and Perry Williams.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Stoner Chapel Baptist Church.
