Obituary

Mr. Carl Franklin Cantrell, Sr., went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 11, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Mr. Cantrell was born in Taylorsville, Georgia, September 28, 1935, son of the late S. Douglas Cantrell and Ila Ponder Cantrell. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church near Taylorsville. Carl attended Bartow county schools and entered the U.S. Army in his late teens. Prior to retiring, he owned and operated his own company working with heavy duty equipment in Floyd County. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Malia Tran, and brothers-in-law, Dennis Costlow and Johnny Williams.

He is survived by his children, a daughter, Carol L. and husband Rickey Rogers of Calhoun, a son, Carl Cantrell, Jr. of Shannon, and a daughter, Rose Marie Jones of Blackfoot, Idaho; the mother of his children, Ruby Ditto of Blackfoot, Idaho also survives; grandchildren are, Leilani Rogers of Calhoun, Dylan Johnson and Amy Williams both of Kingston, John Wheeler Ditto of Moses Lake, Washington, Raligh Miller and Tara Miller both of Blackfoot, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Mason and Morgan Williams of Kingston, Amy Godinez, Tavian Trejo, and Bentleigh Miller of Blackfoot, Idaho, and Anjelic Ditto of Moses Lake, Washington; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Margaret Cantrell of Rome; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Costlow of Adairsville, Emma Williams of Kingston, and Martha and Jerry Dowdy of Rome; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery, Taylorsville with Rev. Harold Owens officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, January 16, 2013, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Pallbearers include his nephews, William Costlow, Wayne Cantrell, Greg Dowdy and his first cousins, Jerry Hill, Hugh Cantrell, and Kenny Head.

The family will receive flowers but contributions may also be made to your favorite charity in memory of Carl Cantrell.
