Mr. Charles Cannon Barton, Sr., age 72, of Canton, Georgia died on July 5, 2015. He was born in Adairsville, Georgia to Margaret Hutcherson Barton and Robert Dudley Barton, Jr. on September 26, 1942.
Mr. Barton was a graduate of Adairsville High School class of 1960 and attended the University of Georgia, and Shorter College. He was a member of Canton United Methodist Church, an Eagle Scout member of Scout Troop 12, the oldest group in the United States, and also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Cannon worked at L & N Railroad now known as CSX Railroad, Lockheed Martin in Marietta, and as a contract engineer in the aerospace industry. He will be remembered for his love of life and wonderful sense of humor. He was a truly good man with integrity and honor. Cannon is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Dudley Barton, III; and sister, Sidney Barton Trimble.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-one years, Anne Vickers Barton of Canton; son, Charles Cannon "Bart" Barton, Jr. and his wife, Tracy of Taylorsville; daughter, Laura Fain Barton of Taylorsville; grandsons, Zachary Cole Barton and Derek Lee Everett of Taylorsville; brothers, Louis and Joelene Barton of Rome and Benson and Anne Barton of Calhoun; sisters-in-law, Ovelle Barton of Adairsville and Kim A. Vickers of Canton; brothers-in-law, John and Patsy Trimble of Adairsville and Jim and Dana Vickers of Canton; several beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2015, at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Father Philip Scott and Rev. Jim McRae officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery at Happy Hollow, Adairsville. Pallbearers include his nephews, Craig Vickers, Hamilton Vickers, Joe Barton, Ben Barton, Matt Barton, and Luke Barton.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
