Mrs. Christene Shivers Rikard , age 88 formerly of Adairsville, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Star Manor, Cartersville.

Mrs. Rikard was born in Roanoke, AL, January 30, 1925, daughter of the late Eli Shivers, Sr. and Douchie Laney Shivers. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Adairsville Baptist Church and a graduate of Berry College. Mrs. Rikard made a career as an educator, teaching in the Bartow and Floyd County School Systems as well as Cartersville city schools. She enjoyed working word puzzles, especially her Bible Words, sewing, knitting, playing the piano, and camping and spending time outdoors. Mrs. Rikard was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Clay Rikard and a son, Forrest Rikard.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and June Rikard of Adairsville; 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Dustin and Michele Rikard of Rome, Danielle and Nate Burlison of Cartersville, and Jerron Rikard of Adairsville; 2 great-grandchildren, Owen Burlison and Avery Rikard; 5 brothers and sisters, Marion Shivers, Anne Ruth Clark, Mildred Brown, Kathleen Evans, and Eli Shivers, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the Adairsville Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Hunt and Rev. Lamar Wadsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Snow Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Adairsville, with Dustin Rikard, Jerron Rikard, Johnny Bagley, Burt Smith, Nate Burlison, and Michael Burlison as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday at Barton Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
