Obituary

Mr. David Robert Barton, age 66, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away September 25, 2012 at the Virginia Hospital Center.

He was born in Ringgold, GA, April 30, 1946, son of the late Reagan Hamilton Barton and Dorothy Bandy Barton. Mr. Barton was a graduate of Adairsville High School and attended Georgia Tech. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Actuarial Science, and received master degrees in Operations Research and Business Economics from George Washington University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam Era and was presented the Nation Defense Service Medal. Mr. Barton was employed as an economist for the U.S. Department of Commerce, a member of MENSA, and had co-authored two economic books.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Holly Xiao of Arlington, VA; step daughter, Donna Xiao of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Jane Shelnutt of Canton, GA; niece, Rebekah Shelnutt of Canton and nephew, Stephen Shelnutt of Canton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, GA with Dr. Rex Garner officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton with full military honors.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:00 PM until 8:00PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the American Heart Association.
