Mr. Dennis "Dean" Edward Higgins, age 68, of Old Highway 140, Adairsville passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at the residence.
He was born in Rome, Georgia, February 14, 1947, son of the late Hershel Frank Higgins and Callie Smith Higgins. He was a member of Connesena Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Higgins was the owner operator of Higgins and Sons Construction for over 50 years. An exceptionally mastered woodworker, he most enjoyed building cabinets, furniture, and mantels. He liked the outdoors, was a cattle farmer, and avid rabbit hunter. Mr. Higgins unconditionally loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janet Hicks.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Sandra Higgins of Adairsville; sons, Brent Higgins of Adairsville and Barry (Jennifer) Higgins of Adairsville; grandchildren, Dallas Higgins, Hannah Higgins, Daleigh Higgins, Callie Ayer, Destin Van Dyke, Shelbie Van Dyke; brothers, Dudley Higgins of Adairsville and Danny (Tina) Higgins of Adairsville; aunts, Alice Belle Culpepper of Adairsville and Janell Alexander of Rome; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM from NorthPointe Church, Adairsville, with Rev. Jim Pinkard, Rev. Darrell Tidwell, and Mr. Byron Green officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers will be Jeb Simerly, Jared Green, Ron Carter, Chris Hicks, Destin Van Dyke, Teddy Hamrick, Jamie Hall, and Tom Gadd. Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Sutton, Fred Painter, Jim Laney, Gene Simerly, Tony Smith, Johnny Worley, Thomas "Bud" Goss, Jason Chatmon, Wade Lancaster, Bobby Cox, Jerry Boswell, Lamar Camp, Hamp Alexander, Jr., and Edward Clark.
The family will receive friends at Barton Funeral Home, Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
