Obituary
Mr. Dennis Long, age 93, of Long Road, Rydal, passed Friday, January 6, 2017, at his residence.
He was born in Fannin County, GA, July 22, 1923, son of the late J.J. Long and Nettie Free Long. Mr. Long was a member and deacon of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He owned and operated a garbage service in Marietta for over 30 years. Mr. Long enjoyed being outside working in his yard, and especially planting his garden every year. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Puryear Long; son, Larry Joe Long; brothers, Elmer Long, Homer Long, James Long and Reed Long.
Survivors include his three children, Bobby Long of Rydal, Richard Long of Rydal and Penny and Bobby McCormick of Dalton; grandsons, Nicholas Clark of Adairsville and Carl and Breanna Clark of Dalton; great-grandchildren, C.J, Aubree, Alexis, London, and Claira; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Rydal, with Rev. Jerry Cowart and Rev. Jody Orton officiating. The body will lie in state at the church Monday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers include Marshall Long, Douglas Long, Barry Morgan, Terry Long, David Long, and Bobby McCormick.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
