Mr. Donald "Abby" Howell Abernathy, Jr. age 62, of Stoners Chapel Road, Adairsville, died Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Floyd Medical Center.

He was born in Cartersville, August 28, 1958, son of the late Donald Howell Abernathy, Sr. and Bonnie Louise Thomas Abernathy. He attended NorthPointe Church, Adairsville. Donald had worked at Marchem for 34 years and owned and operated Abernathy Farms with his brother, Philip raising cattle, goats, sheep, and chickens. Known to many as Coach Abby, he dedicated over 30 years to coaching 12 and under Adairsville Tiger football. He loved being with his family, enjoying the outdoors, and going fishing and hunting. Donald was a friend to all and will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lynn Gibbs Abernathy; sons, Tripp Abernathy and his wife Katelyn and Thomas Abernathy; granddaughters, Morgan and Reagan; brother, Philip Abernathy and his wife Sue; niece, Bonnie Abernathy; great-niece, Rowan; and special cousin and friend, Eric and Joy Abernathy.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 4, 2020, at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Reverends Earl Abernathy, David Baker, and Matthew Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in Stoner Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:00 noon until 3:00 PM at the Barton Funeral Home.

Family and friends attending services will be required to wear face mask and observe social distancing.
