Obituary

Mrs. Martha Elaine Darby, 90, of Kennesaw, passed away Monday (November 4, 2013) at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

Mrs. Darby was born in Pine Log, Georgia, December 24, 1922, daughter of the late James W. and Dessie Atkins Henson. Elaine was a true southern Christian lady and a lifetime Baptist. She enjoyed sewing, loved reading, and gardening. She devoted her life to caring for others, especially her beloved husband Lee. She was a longtime associate at Calmor in Adairsville. Mrs. Darby is preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, J.W., Max, and Colonel Henson.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lee R. Darby; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Rose Darby of Brunswick; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer and Bob Speight of St. Simons Island, and Margaret and Bill Wilson of Brunswick; 2 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Speight and Wyatt Wilson; sister, Elese Reece of Kennesaw; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Peggy Henson of Powder Springs; numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces; friend and caregiver, Iris Aluqdah.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Rev. Gary Hibberts and Rev. Mike Murray officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include Harry Darby, Steve Moraitakis, Mark Henson, Doug Ferrell, Bob Speight, and Bill Wilson.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
