Mrs. Elizabeth Neal "Bill" Guyton Upshaw, age 99, formerly of 4008 Highway 411, Rydal, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 in Young Harris, GA.
She was born in Waleska, GA, June 11, 1911, daughter of the late David Felton Guyton and Bessie Ardella Harmon Guyton. Mrs. Upshaw was a member of Pine Log United Methodist Church and the Historical Society. She had a love for gardening and was a member of the Cartersville Garden Club and In the Valley Garden Club, Rydal. Mrs. Upshaw had been the house mother for Delta Tau Delta at Emory University and owned and operated an Antique and Flower shop in Rydal. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Dewey Bearden and her late husband, Troy Upshaw, a brother, Tate Guyton; 2 sisters, Lucille Nickelson and Mary Sparks; a son, Dewey Bearden and a daughter, Bettye McHan.
Survivors include 3 daughters and son-in-law, Sammie Shuman of Young Harris, Anne and Benson Barton of Calhoun, and Rosemary Creech of Greenville, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Vivian Bearden of Kennesaw; 7 grandsons, Gregg Bradley, Daniel Bearden, John Bearden, David Bearden, Matt Barton, Ben Barton, Joe Barton, Katherine Morrissey, Ashley Scoville, John Creech, Jr. and Rebecca Creech; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April, 28, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Pine Log United Methodist Church, Pine Log, with Rev. Nathaniel Long and Rev. Jeff Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow in Reinhardt Chapel (Briar Patch) Cemetery, Waleska. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob McMillian, John Upshaw, Wade Wilson, David Vaughn, Van Satterfield, Benson Barton, Jim Goldbeck and John Sparks.
The family will receive friends Thursday at Pine Log United Methodist Church from 1:30 PM until the funeral hour at 2:00 PM.
