Mrs. Evelyn Smith Touchstone, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 4, 2026.

A lifelong resident of the Snow Springs Community in Adairsville, Evelyn was born at home on July 15, 1938, daughter of the late Jerry Carl and Lula Pearl Camp Smith. She was raised in a farming family, her childhood filled with hard work, family gatherings, praise and worship, and gospel singing. At a very young age, Evelyn learned to play the piano, and so began a relationship with music that would span her lifetime. She diligently honed this gift and channelled her talent in service to her Lord, faithfully serving as pianist and organist at Snow Springs Baptist Church (where she had been a member until 2007) for over fifty years. Mrs. Touchstone was a proud graduate of Adairsville High School, Class of ‘56, where, in her own words, “Basketball was her favorite subject!.” “Smitty,” as she was affectionately known on the court, accumulated numerous trophies, honors and fond memories playing the game, notably leading the 1956 Lady Tigers to a 30-2 record, becoming the first to win their conference and earning a trip to the GHSA Class C State Tournament. Professionally, Mrs. Touchstone cultivated a long and successful career in banking; beginning at the Bank of Adairsville, subsequently joining First National Bank of Cartersville, and ultimately retiring from the Cartersville branch of Wachovia with over 26 years of service in the banking industry. Evelyn was a devoted member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, where she continued to fulfill her musical calling behind the piano. She truly adored her Cedar Creek family and treasured the friendships she made there. Above all, Mrs. Touchstone cherished her family. Family gatherings were among her greatest joys, and she relished in every opportunity to have all of her family together. She prized and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found profound happiness in spending time with them. Her presence brought warmth and joy to those around her, and she was always someone her family could count on for love, encouragement, and a smile. Evelyn will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion to God and family, her love of music, and the many lives she touched throughout her years as she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, family, and service.

“Do not stand by my grave and cry. I am not there: to be absent from my body, is to be present with the Lord.”

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Charles “Chuck” Touchstone; daughters, Cynthia Touchstone Birchfield and husband Tim and Angie Touchstone Polcin and husband Tracee; grandchildren, Tiffany Chandler and husband Johnathan, Brooks Robinson and wife, Kayla, Jacob Knowles, and Hayden Knowles; great-grandchildren, Kade Robinson, Maxen Robinson, Jaxon Robinson, Lucas Robinson, Stallings Everly Chandler, and Spivey Rose Chandler; special girls, Tami Miller and Christa West Gulledge; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William ”Billy” Carl Smith, Sr., and sister, Dorothy Jeanette Adcock.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11:30 AM from Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Rev. Gregg Free officiating. Interment will follow in Snow Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
