Mr. Gene Felton Sutton, age 85, of Calhoun, formerly of Adairsville, passed away at home on Friday, August 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born in Rome, GA, on January 27, 1940, to the late Doyle H. Sutton and Connie Lee Jackson Sutton.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Sutton; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Steve Clifton; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Tammy Sutton and Shawn and Eve Sutton; grandchildren, Zane and Sarah Clifton, Zachary and Morgan Clifton, Trey and Thaley Sutton, Brody Gillean, Emily and Bryson Thomas, and Kris Sutton and fiancé Raegan Peters; great-grandchildren, Maxton and Charleigh Clifton, Blair Clifton, Mazzi Sutton, and Beckham and Bodhi Thomas; sister, Patsy Wilson; special niece and nephew, Teresa and Randy Robinson; special sisters-in-law, Fay Sutton, Josie Hall, and Louise Bradley; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Timmy Sutton; brothers, Hilton Sutton and Melvin Sutton; sisters, Beatrice Abernathy and Elsie Frix; and his furbaby Liz.

Gene, known to family as Mean Gene, was a proud husband, Daddy, and Papa who loved his family dearly. He found the most joy in spending time together and was always there to support his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their life, sports, and activities. His love for his family was evident in everything he did.

A faithful Christian, Gene was a veteran of the United States Army, and a member and past master of the Adairsville Masonic Lodge #168 F&AM. Gene had retired from Mannington and associated with Barton Funeral Home for over 30 years. He loved sports, particularly football, baseball, and wrestling. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, the GA Tech Yellow Jackets, the Adairsville Tigers, and the Sonoraville Phoenix. Co-founder of the 'Liars Club', he always enjoyed a visit to Sue's barber shop to catch up on the local news or relaxing in his chair with "his remote", watching TV.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 2:00PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Reverends Andrew Hight and Keith Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville with military honors. Pallbearers include his grandsons, Zane Clifton, Zachary Clifton, Trey Sutton, Brody Gillean, Kris Sutton, and Bryson Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Barton Funeral Home, his granddaughter, Emily Thomas and his great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
