Mr. George Benson "Ben" Barton, Jr., age 40, of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Gordon Hospital.

He was born in Rome, Georgia, June 17, 1975, son of George Benson Barton Sr. and Anne Upshaw Barton. Mr. Barton was of the Methodist faith. All who knew him would tell you he had a heart of gold. Ben always put others first and more than willing to lend a helping hand. Although he was quiet, he had a keen sense of humor. He was a talented wood craftsmen, enjoyed the outdoors, and loved being with his family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.D. and Margaret Barton, Troy and Rachel Upshaw, and Elizabeth Upshaw; uncles, Dudley Barton and Cannon Barton; aunts, Sidney Trimble and Nancy Upshaw.

Survivors include his parents, Benson and Anne Barton of Calhoun; brothers and sisters-in-law, Matt and Lynne Barton of Calhoun and Joe and Kate Barton of Calhoun; nieces, Kathryn and Leslie Barton of Calhoun; partner, Sharon Carver of Calhoun; uncles, Louis and Jolene Barton of Rome and John and Patsy Trimble of Adairsville; aunts, Rosemary Creech of S.C., Ovelle Barton of Adairsville, and Anne Barton of Canton; several cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery, Calhoun. Pallbearers include Kenny Joe Dixon, Cameron Porch, Tony Tumlin, Randy Hough, Douglas Hasty, Matt Early, Chris Ormeroid, Bart Barton, and Luke Barton.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
