Mr. George David Burkhart, age 81, of Shaw Road, Adairsville, passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at his residence.

He was born in St. Petersburg, FL, September 30, 1934, son of the late George Charlie Burkhart and Ida Stinson Burkhart. Mr. Burkhart was a member of Adairsville United Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. Along with his wife, they owned and operated Fireside Cottages and Mountaineer Buffet in Maggie Valley for eight years. Always active in the community, he served four years on the Coopersville School Board, member of the Coopersville Lions Club, the Exchange Club, and also a member of Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Burkhart was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be truly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anita Blanke.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Alisan Burkhart of Adairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Denise Burkhart of Sugar Valley; daughter, Sally Jo Sanford of Resaca; grandchildren, Larissa Sanford, Emily Sanford, Paul Sanford, Meghan Burkhart, and Matt Davis; sweet puppy, Chloe.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Dr. Ken Freshour officiating. Interment will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton with full military honors at a later date.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
