Mrs. Gladys Sutton Peterson, age 97, of Snow Springs Road, Adairsville, GA, passed away Saturday evening (July 5, 2014) at her residence.

Mrs. Peterson was born in Adairsville, June 16, 1917, daughter of the late William Doyle and Rhoda Green Sutton. She first joined Snow Springs Baptist Church in 1930 and graduated from Adairsville High School in 1935. During her lifetime she had lived in France for twenty-six months where her daughter, Penny, was born, had traveled around the world twice, and had visited the Holy Land several times. Mrs. Peterson had lived in Orlando, Florida, from 1954 until 1989 when she and her late husband moved to Adairsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Lt. Col. Walter Lawrence Peterson in 1999; brothers, Wyman Sutton in 1999 and Lionel Sutton in 2009; grandson, Brent Hundley in 2005.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Gordon Hundley of Louisville, KY; grandson, Brad and Alyssa Hundley of Louisville, KY; great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace Hundley; sister, Dorothy Bell of White; sister-in-law Margaret Sutton of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Snow Springs Baptist Church, Adairsville with Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour on Tuesday. Pallbearers include Brad Hundley, William Smith, Travis Smith, Taylor Smith, Timothy Smith, Lamar Camp, and Leonard Fletcher.

The family will receive family and friends Monday, July 7, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
