Obituary

Rev. Harold Owens was born March 7, 1937 in Chattooga County, GA, to the late Luther Clay and Mary Bailey Owens. He went home to live with his Lord and Savior on January 21, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by loved ones. He was preceded in death by his dear, loving wife of 53 years, Claudean "Dean" Owens.

Rev. Owens was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He loved camping with family and friends over the years, but his primary love and focus was on his ministry and service to The Lord. He was licensed to preach in 1955 and was ordained into ministry in 1970. Over the years he pastored many area churches including Sunnyside, Dry Creek, Moss Memorial, Pine Grove, Ryo and Hopewell Baptist Churches. After taking time off to care for his wife, he returned to Ryo Baptist a second time and continued there until last year, when he was no longer able. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him, and many were blessed through his ministry.

He is survived by his sons, Eddie and his wife, Brenda, of Gainesville, GA, and Ronald and his wife, Lisa, of Adairsville, GA; brothers Trammel Owens and his wife, Jane, of Cartersville, GA, and L. C. and his wife, Patricia, of Euharlee, GA; a sister, Wanda Smith of Rydal, GA; 3 grandchildren, Michael Owens of Rome, GA, Matthew Owens of Rome, GA, and Amanda Redd of Adairsville, GA; several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Dry Creek Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Rev. Larry Towe, Rev. Ronnie Howard, Rev. Jerry Cowart and Rev. Jerome Silvers officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers include the following deacons representing churches he pastored: Stanley Woody, Odis Jarrett, Bobby Hazelwood, Gary Hancock, Michael Crider, and Gene Thomas. Pastors and Deacons from these churches are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
