Mr. William Hoyt Sutton, age 86, of 84 Sam Sutton Road, Adairsville, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Cartersville Medical Center.
Mr. Sutton was born in Adairsville, October 22, 1924, son of the late Samuel Lofton Sutton and Beulah Buttrum Sutton. He was a member of Adairsville Baptist Church and the Adairsville Masonic Lodge #168, F & AM. Mr. Sutton was a veteran having served both with the U. S. Navy as a yeoman on the USS Princeton during World War II and as a sergeant with the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Lockheed Martin Aircraft where he had been employed as a mechanic, and had worked with the Bartow County School System in addition to several other occupations, including operating his own store. Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith Smith Sutton in 2008; and a brother, Rexford Sutton.
Survivors include a son, Michael Sutton of Portage, IN; 2 daughters, Sarah (Jimmy) Williams of Adairsville; Kathy Sutton of Cartersville; 5 grandchildren, Christina (Robert) Silvers of Adairsville, Lori (Jarvis) Todd of Adairsville, Jennifer (Johnathan) Bishop of Cedartown, Amy (Corey) Tate of Calhoun and Jimmy Williams, Jr. of Savannah; 5 great-grandchildren, Savannah and Jacob Silvers, Ayson and Jaden Todd, and Easton Tate; a special friend of the family, Sue Anderson; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Webster officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Williams, Jr., Billy Harris, Carlous Cook, Jerry Pelfrey, Jimmy Wood, and Dean Higgins. Honorary pallbearers include Guy Culpepper and the deacons of Adairsville Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Barton Funeral Home.
