Obituary
Mrs. Irene Jackson West, age 98, of Adairsville passed away Tuesday morning, August 8, 2017, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Bartow County, August 2, 1919, daughter of the late Robert Oliver Jackson and Minnie Ellen Stone Jackson. She was the eldest member of First Christian Church of Adairsville and had the longest membership. Mrs. West was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. "Chester" West who died on June 10, 1998; 2 brothers, J. Turner and William "Dub" Jackson; 5 sisters, Leacy Jackson, Grace Jarrett, Mary "Mert" Lou Wright, Katie Lou Jackson, and Alma Sparks.
Survivors include her sister, Lois Jarrett of Acworth; special nephew, Ron Jackson of Calhoun; special nieces, Allison Roberts and Jennifer Reece; special friend and devoted caregiver, Donna Hooker Bowling; and many other nieces and nephews.
After retiring from Penfield's, Mrs. West began what she referred to "as the answer to her prayers' a 16 year period taking care of her great-nieces, Allison Jackson Roberts and Jennifer Jackson Reece. Her unconditional love and Christian faith will remain etched on their lives forever.
At the age of 66 years old, Mrs. West completed her GED and received the Award for Outstanding Student.
Mrs. West was a devoted Christian and faithfully served her church family in a variety of ways including playing the piano, keeping the nursery, and helping with vacation Bible school. She loved the Lord with all her heart and read the Bible daily. Mrs. West will be deeply missed by her friends and family and will be remembered as a woman of great faith and kindness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the First Christian Church of Adairsville with Ministers Danny Pelfrey and Ron Marks officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens, Calhoun.
Pallbearers will be David McClure, Richie Jarrett, Jason Jarrett, Richard Cowart, John D. Hooker, Ronald Stephens, and Brent Wyatt. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Sparks, William Bill Jackson, Larry Jarrett, Austin Stephens, and all other nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Adairsville, PO Box 680, Adairsville, GA 30103.
