Mr. James E. Barton, age 88, of Cumming, passed away Sunday morning, December 25, 2011, at Northside Hospital Forsyth.
He was born September 22, 1923, son of the late Jessie James and Mattie Mae Barton. James served in the Army for 2 years. He remembers well, landing on D-Day and his time served in Germany and France. After serving in Normandy, James came home to meet his soon to be bride Ruth. Shortly after getting married they moved to Atlanta where he worked with GA Power until he retired. After retirement they moved to Adairsville, GA. He and Ruth owned a home and farm in Adairsville. James raised and sold cattle, was an excellent farmer (best garden in town) and when time allowed enjoyed hunting. They moved to Grayson, GA and then finally to Cumming, GA to be closer to their children and grandchildren. James was proud to be a Mason and he and his beloved were active members of the Belmont Baptist Church, The Order of the Eastern Star GA and they really enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. Their favorite travel location was Alaska and the Holy Land. James will be missed by all those who know and love him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth Barton in 2009, and a brother, Troy Barton.
He is survived by 2 sons, Jimmy (Margo) Barton of Cumming, GA and Ferrell (Susie) Barton of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter, Tina (Jimmy) Hansard of Cumming, GA; a brother, Joe Barton of Adairsville; a sister, Shirley Ann Cobb of Adairsville; 8 grandchildren, Tammie Carpenter, Kellie Barton, Sonny Hardeman, Robbie Horveith, Jessica Horveith, Melissa Barton, Karen Barton, and Rachel Barton; 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday prior to the funeral service from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at 3:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
