Mr. James Carter "JC" Garlin, 89, of Adairsville, GA passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his residence.

He was born in Shannon, GA, May 3, 1930, son of the late William Alfred Garlin, Sr. and Stella Mae Carter Garlin. Mr. Garlin has been a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church since 1973. He was a retired deacon, in the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, a Mellowdallians Senior Group, and for a long time the oldest player on the MBC softball team. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict and member of Plainville Masonic Lodge #364. After the service he joined International Union of Operating Engineers local #926 as a crane operator and was a member for 60 years. Mr. Garlin was an avid trout fisherman, bird hunter, and enjoyed growing a big garden. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Greg Garlin and Garry Garlin; grandson, Britt Atkins; brothers, Oscar Garlin and Z.T. Garlin; and sisters, Pauline Dyer and Inez Kelly.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Price Garlin; daughter, Myra and Jerry Atkins; daughter-in-law, Connie Moore Garlin; grandchildren, Ciara Langford, Jerremy (Rhonda) Atkins, Charlie (Jessica) Garlin, Molly Estapa, and Emily Atkins; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Annie, Ellie, and Whitney Langford, Paisley Atkins, and Jonah and Bennett Estapa; brothers, William Garlin, Jr. and Henley "Sonny" Garlin; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Meadowdale Baptist Church, Calhoun with Rev. Jeremy Kirby, Dr. Steven F. Pearson, and Dr. Garry Tate officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville with military rites. Pallbearers will be the deacons of Meadowdale Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Seabolt, Kevin Phipps, Larry Clark, Jimmy Maddix, John D. Hooker, Eddy Lassiter, Stacey Garlin, Bengi Price, Sidney VanDyke, Donald VanDyke, and Hoyle Thomas.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
