Mr. James Melvin Edwards, age 78, of Folsom Road, Adairsville passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at his residence.

He was born in the Folsom Community, November 6, 1939, son of the late J.C. "Chess" Edwards and Bessie Johnson Edwards. Mr. Edwards was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from General Electric. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Mr. Edwards liked being a part of his community and always helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Gayton.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Shelba Adcock Edwards of Adairsville; sons, Todd Edwards of Adairsville and Steve Edwards of Chickamauga; grandchildren, Chesley Edwards and Chansea Edwards; brothers, Jerry Edwards, Dwight Edwards, and David and Ann; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Adairsville with Rev. Gregg Free and Rev. Barry Adcock officiating.   Interment will follow in the Hayes Cemetery, Adairsville. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Michael Edwards, Derek Edwards, Mark Edwards, Dearl Adcock, Doyle Adcock, and Brian Adcock. Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Freeman, Bobby Lance, Charles Barton, Butch Carr, Larry Cobb, and Jack Demsey.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
