Mr. James "Jim" Gilbert Purvis, Jr. age 79, of 424 Railoverlook, Adairsville, passed away Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012 at his daughter's residence.

He was born in Atlanta, GA, August 15, 1933, son of the late James Gilbert Purvis, Sr. and Charlie Brown Purvis. Mr. Purvis graduated from Northside High School, Shorter College, and University of West Georgia where he received a master's degree in early childhood education. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, a member of the Brock Pelfrey American Legion, Adairsville Masonic Lodge #168, and Adairsville Optimist Club. Mr. Purvis was member of Adairsville Baptist Church; he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He was a retired teacher and also owner of Bartow Bookkeeping. Mr. Purvis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Purvis and a brother, Paul Purvis

Survivors include his 2 daughters, Angela Combs and her husband, Greg, of Adairsville and Karen M. Purvis of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Scott M. (Kayla) Walker, Rebekah Combs and Sarah Combs, all of Adairsville; brother, Frank (Linda Lee) Purvis of Americus; a sister-in-law Gail Purvis of Deltona, FL; a brother-in-law, Larry B. (Gail) Hollingsworth of Marietta; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM from Adairsville Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Rev. Richard Webster and Rev. Michael Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Park, Atlanta. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Deacons of the Adairsville Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Adairsville Baptist Church, Adairsville.
