Obituary

Mr. James Toby Johnson, age 86, of 27 Shaw Street, NW, Kingston, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at the residence.

He was born in Kingston, August 2, 1926, son of the late Clifford Eugene and Sarah Frances Pratt Johnson, Jr. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 42nd Rainbow Division during WWII and retired from Lockheed Martin after 37 years of service in addition to raising cattle. Mr. Johnson was an active member of the community helping found the Volunteer Fire Department in Kingston and as member of Kingston Baptist Church. Also an avid hunter, he took pride in training and hunting his bird dogs. Mr. Johnson adored spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Eugene Johnson, III, and a sister-in-law, Betty Sue Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Woods Johnson of Kingston; a son and daughter-in-law Ricky Dean (Stacy) Black of Kingston; 5 grandchildren, Toby "Lisa" (Roger) Nash, Christopher Dean Black, Stephen Cody (Chelsie) Black, Ricky C. Black, and Gabriel Matthew McDaniel; 7 great-grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Murphy, Graham (Casey) Nash, Drew (Tonya) Nash, Megan Black, Nicolas Black, Sierra McDaniel, and Cesslie Black; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Camron, Carter, Cooper Nash, and Nova Black; a sister, Charlotte Bray; special nieces and nephew, Cathy Shedd, Lynn Lee and Randy Johnson; great-nephews, Mark (Melody) Lee of Kingston and Brian (Stephanie) Lee of Iowa; a special little helper, Ronnie "Little Man" Zachery and a good friend, Marvin Taylor.


Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Rev. Jimmy Garland officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Lee, Roger Nash, Graham Nash, Drew Nash, Rickey Black, Michael Murphy, Chris Black, Robert Woods, Johnny Davis, Billy Woods, Johnny Woods, Bobby Woods, and Marshall Woods.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
