James Arthur Lovingood, Jr., age 93 of Scottsboro, Alabama passed from this life August 17, 2016.
Jim was born on March 1, 1923 in McMinn, Tennessee. On February 16, 1943 he was inducted in the Army to serve his country during World War II. He served honorably for 3 ½ years in the Pacific Theatre with the 394th Amphibious Engineers Boat and Shore Regiment. After returning home to Sarasota, Florida in January 1946, he met his wife, Virginia Gayle Ellis. They were married June 5, 1947 and had three daughters.
Mr. Lovingood was member of the Masonic lodge (Sarasota Lodge #147), Trinity Commandery # 16 (York Rite) and a Shriner (Sahib Temple) in Sarasota, Florida, and Cahaba Temple in Scottsboro, Alabama. He attended Randall's Chapel United Methodist Church.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Ellis Lovingood; two daughters, Lana Richey (Eddie) and Lori Thurman (Charlie); grandchildren, Jenna Richey, Zachary Richey (Elissa) Adam Thurman (Tristan), and Matthew Thurman; great grandchildren, Adelynn, Arabella, and Jett; brothers, Clyde Lovingood and Charles Lovingood (Patricia); and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Prudie & James Arthur Lovingood, Sr.; beloved daughter, Lisa Jayne Lovingood; brothers, Joe Z. and Fred T. Lovingood; and sister, Charlotte Weeks.
Mr. Lovingood will receive friends at Scottsboro Funeral home 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2016. A visitation will be held at R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in Eastview Cemetery in Adairsville, Georgia beside his beloved daughter.
