James Marvin Tanner

Mr. James Marvin Tanner, age 82, of Adairsville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with his loving family at his side.

Marvin was born in the Folsom Community on January 22, 1944, son of the late Maureen Duckett Tanner and Floyd Joseph Tanner. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Annell Ensley Tanner; daughter-in-law, Pam Tanner; granddaughter, Allison Tanner Harris; and infant brother, Owen Tanner.

Survivors include his loving children, Greg Scott Tanner and wife Darlene, Jeffrey Marvin Tanner, and Tammy Rena Baggett and husband Michael; grandchildren, Justin Tanner and wife Janna, Becky Skidmore and husband Justin, Erin Tanner, McKayla Hill and husband Dylan, Morgan Baggett, and Maddie Baggett; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lila, and Amelia, Gunner, Cole, and Lily, Zoey, Zaryiah, Zalaysia, Zakeely, and Zaylee, Keidric, Aurianah, Gabriella, and Adalynne and Ella Kate and Forrest.

Mr. Tanner was a loving father and “Papa” whose family meant so much to him. He retired from Chemical Products Corporation in Cartersville and was of the Baptist faith. In his free time, Marvin enjoyed camping, trips to the beach, gardening, and riding his tractor. He had a sweet tooth for ice cream and could often be found enjoying a quiet day outdoors. Those who knew him will remember that he was rarely seen without his pack of Bowie chewing tobacco—and his faithful companion, his dog, Bear. Marvin will be fondly remembered for the simple joys he found in life and the love he shared with his family.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Mr. Greg Tanner and Mrs. Tammy Baggett officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include Kevin Baggett, Billy Womack, Randall McClure, Dale Robinson, Blake Childers, and Gerald Childers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gunner and Cole Skidmore, Forrest Hill, David Edwards and Bruce Brock.

The family will receive friends, Tuesday, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
