IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karen Moore
Swafford
September 15, 1942 – February 25, 2023
Mrs. Karen Moore Swafford, age 80, of Adairsville, passed away Saturday evening, February 25, 2023, at home with family.
Karen was born in Rome, Georgia, September 15, 1942, daughter of the late J. B. Moore and Wilma Jo Gazaway Moore. Mrs. Swafford was also preceded in death by her grandson, William Brandon Brown and stepdaughter, Jackie Steverson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 42 years, Jason Swafford; daughters, Robin Biddy and husband Miles, Susan Holcomb, Sheila Haley and husband Mike; grandchildren, Brooks Brown (Leslee), Amy Brown, Will Biddy (Natalia), Kacey Biddy, Paul Michael Haley, Tanner Haley and Ross Haley; great-granddaughters, Brylee Brown and Annistyn Farist; brother, Jere Moore; stepdaughter, Linda Wix and husband Lee, and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and caregiver, Renee Bohannon.
A lifelong Christian and devoted church member, Karen grew up in and around the Bartow and Cobb County area. She graduated from Adairsville High School where she was a cheerleader, voted wittiest and the homecoming queen for the class of 1960. She married Gary Sutton right after high school and together they raised their three daughters. Karen taught kindergarten at Adairsville First Baptist and Acworth First Baptist for about 15 years. She taught Vacation Bible school for many years as well. She so loved working with the children and seeing them learn.
After her girls were grown, she went to college and then worked in the accounting field, first for a firm and then later in her own home-based business. Karen married Jason Swafford in 1980 and they had a wonderful life together for over 40 years.
Karen was a beautiful lady with a great sense of humor who loved life, despite dealing with the effects of multiple sclerosis since her early 30's. She loved spending time with her family and friends, square-dancing and road trips, and she rarely turned down an invitation to do most anything. She refused to let the MS keep her from living life to the fullest and she was such an example to all of us.
Karen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a friend to so many. She never met a stranger, and she was never without a witty comment. She put others first and never felt sorry for herself. She loved her Lord, her family, her friends and her church and she will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Barton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 11:00am at the Adairsville Baptist Church with Reverend Eric Sorrell officiating.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Brown, Will Biddy, Paul Michael Haley, Tanner Haley, Ross Haley and Heath Garland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Adairsville Baptist Church Children's Ministry in Karen's memory.
R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, is in charge of funeral arrangements for Mrs. Karen Moore Swafford.
