Mr. Lee R. Darby, age 92, passed away Friday (August 21, 2015) in Brunswick, Georgia.
Mr. Darby was born in Adairsville, Georgia, January 17, 1923, son of the late Redden Floyd Darby and Bessie Stephens Darby. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. In December 1944 he was captured by the Germans and later liberated in April of 1945. Mr. Darby was a member of Oothcalooga Baptist Church and also attended New Antioch Church. A devout Christian, he taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, and was an assistant Pastor. He enjoyed all types of gardening, reading, and loved being with his family. Mr. Darby is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha Elaine Darby; brothers, J.C. Darby and Herman Darby.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Rose Darby of Brunswick; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer and Bob Speight of St. Simons Island, and Margaret and Bill Wilson of Brunswick; 2 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Speight and Wyatt Wilson; brother, Louis Darby of Calhoun; cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 24, 2015, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Pastor Mike Murray, Mr. Jim Darby, and Mrs. Jennifer Speight officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Joe Darby, Harry Darby, Bob Speight, Bill Wilson, Mike Jones, and Steve Moraitakis.
The family will receive friends Monday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
