Mr. Louis Gentry Darby, age 89, of McDaniel Station Road, Calhoun, passed away Monday (June 13, 2016) at his residence.

Mr. Darby was born in Thomasville, Georgia, October 25, 1926, son of the late Redden Floyd Darby and Bessie Stephens Darby. Mr. Darby was a member of Oothcalooga Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, and member of Red Carpet Cattlemen's Association. A lifelong farmer, he enjoyed spending his days tending to his cattle and working his gardens. Mr. Darby is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy Brock Darby; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Edna Darby; brothers, Lee Darby, J.C. Darby, and Herman Darby.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Kathy Darby of Calhoun, and Joe and Martha Darby of Calhoun; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Steve Moraitakis of Calhoun; grandchildren, Alicia Darby, Maria (Patrick) Scott, Jody Darby, Haley (Mike) Jones, Darby Moraitakis, Katie (Cliff) Beebe, and Matthew Darby; great-grandchildren; Monte Moraitakis, Mason Moraitakis, Gage Darby, Sebastian Beebe, and Olivia Beebe; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Oothcalooga Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Reverend Gary Hibberts, Reverend Gary Bowman, and Reverend Michael Hunt. Music will be provided by his grandson, Jody Darby. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Calhoun. Pallbearers will be Tim Holland, Greg Hight, Kent Womack, Ralph Kinman, Brock Henderson, Jeff Henderson, and Ricky Holden.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Oothcalooga Baptist Church, Adairsville.
