Obituary
Mrs. Margie Lee Cox Varner, 77, of Cass Pine Log Road, NE, Rydal, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at her residence.
She was born in Cartersville, GA, January 27, 1935, daughter of the late Hubert M. and Ida Mae Carson Cox. Mrs. Varner was a member of Bartow Cumberland Presbyterian Church as well as Woodmen of the World. She had attended Reinhardt College and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Shorter College. Mrs. Varner had been an educator with the Gordon and Bartow County School Systems from which she retired after thirty-one years of service. She enjoyed helping others and had donated countless hours of her time performing volunteer work. Mrs. Varner's interests included sewing and needle crafts, cooking, and cultivating flowers in her garden. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Cox.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin Varner of Rydal; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Nathan and Beth Varner of Augusta and Louie and Miki Varner of Rydal; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan (Lillian), James, Judy, Jeffrey, Ansley, and Landon Varner; 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua Varner and Damien Monges; a brother and sister-in-law, Dean (Joyce) Cox of Cartersville; a sister-in-law, Eva Varner of Carnesville; nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her devoted caregivers – Fran, Donna, Faye, Tina, Jackie and Jennifer. Also for the tender loving care from Dr. Roger Hiser and staff, Coosa Home Health, and Amedisys Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2013, at 11:00 AM Bartow Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Rackley and Rev. Jimmy Day officiating. A committal service will be held at Bold Spring Methodist Church, Carnesville, at 3:00 PM, Monday with Rev. E. M. Nelson, after which interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bartow-Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Rydal, GA, or Bold Spring United Methodist Church, Carnesville, GA.
