Marjorie Terrill Venable, 96, died on April 13, 2022, in Rome, Georgia.
She was born on August 27, 1925, in Perry, Taylor County, Florida, daughter of the late Alta Mae Cope Terrill and John Richmond Terrill. She was baptized at Adairsville Baptist Church, and in retirement she and her husband became members of the Kingston United Methodist Church.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband James W. Venable, Jr., sisters Evelyn Cope Terrill, Clara Mae Terrill, and Madge (Vinson) Tate, brothers Herman Visto (Hazel), Richmond Cole, Allen Gray (Dot), and Ray Noble Terrill, and sister and brother-in-law Helen and John Sansom, niece and nephews.
She is survived by sister-in-law Eloise Terrill, Gainesville, five nieces, and two nephews.
She graduated from Adairsville High School in 1943. After high school, she graduated in 1947 from Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University. After graduation, Marjorie taught school for over 36 years. The majority, 27 years, was spent teaching in Cobb County, Georgia at Sedalia Park elementary school. She also taught at Adairsville schools.
Marjorie loved teaching, she loved learning new things, and traveling across the United States. She enjoyed watching movies on quiet nights at home, loved books, reading, and studying her bible.
She LOVED animals and over the years had many kitties and dogs. She was also an avid birdwatcher.
She also loved working in her garden and growing beautiful flowers.
Marjorie hosted many events as a member of the Oothcaloga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Post 42, Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion of Cartersville, the State of Georgia, and the Attaway VFW Post of Rome. She also served as an officer for many of these organizations.
Her intelligence, kindness, and most of all bright joy will be missed.
The family would like to thank Harborview of Rome (formerly Rome Health & Rehab) for the love and care provided to Marjorie.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Sorrell officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville.
