Mr. Marlen Wade Glass, age 81, of 634 Woody Road, Adairsville, passed away Saturday evening, February 18, 2011 at his residence.
He was born in Guntersville, AL, March 24, 1929, son of the late Earl and Idell Naylor Glass. Mr. Glass was of the Baptist faith and was skilled in woodworking. He was somewhat of an entrepreneur; owning and operating several businesses, including a gas station, restaurant, beauty salon, and flower shop, in addition to raising cattle. He had also worked as a butcher at S & H and was last employed at Kane Carpets. He was preceded in death by a brother, Olen "Bud" Glass.
Survivors include his wife, Larnita Glass of Adairsville; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Glass of Adairsville and Jimmy Glass of Adairsville; a daughter, Deborah Glass of Adairsville; 9 grandchildren, David Hall, Jason Hall, Stacey Caldwell, Mandy Fite, Michelle Meadows, Mary Long, Shawn Cronnon, Cristina Higgins, and Ashlei Glass; 18 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 4:00 PM from Oak Grove Baptist Church, Adairsville with Rev. Gary Garland officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville with military honors. The body will lie in state at the church from 3:00 PM until the funeral hour. Michael Higgins, Jonathan Hunter, David Hall, Jason Hall, John Wilson, and Ronnie Williams will serve as pallbearers. Dimitri Miller and Shawn Cronnon will be and honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
