Mrs. Mary Stroup Tate, age 89, formerly of Adairsville, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Pruitt Health Care, Rome.
She was born in Trion, GA, on May 16, 1928, daughter of the late Edward Richard Stroup and Ima Day Blackmon Stroup. She was of the Baptist faith having attended many churches with her late husband, Reverend Broadus Tate. She loved gospel music and was the pianist for Canaan Aires Quartet. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Broadus Tate; grandchildren, Lee Tate and Timothy Michael; daughter-in-law, Barbara Sue Champion Tate; brother, Stanford Stroup; sister, Doris Ford; and niece, Linda McNameria.
Survivors include her loving children, Patricia (Larry) Martin of Calhoun, Barbara (Frank) Atkins of Rome, Terry Tate of Adairsville, and Jerry Tate of Adairsville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery, Rome. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
