IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael W.
Sutton
April 12, 1948 – December 5, 2021
Mr. Michael W. Sutton, age 73, of Adairsville formerly of Northwest Indiana, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Sutton was born in Rome, Georgia, April 12, 1948, son of the late William Hoyt Sutton and Edith Smith Sutton. Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Sam and Beulah Sutton and Cecil and Gladys Smith.
Survivors include his sisters, Sarah (Jimmy) Williams and Kathy (Sue Anderson) Sutton; nieces and nephews, Christina (Robert) Silvers, Lori (Jarvis) Todd, Jennifer (Johnathon) Bishop, Amy (Corey) Tate, and Jimmy (Justin) Williams, Jr.; the Parks and Rodriguez Family in Indiana; and several great nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Adairsville High School and University of West Georgia (1970), Mike lived an uncommon life of Christian service.
After college he used his musical gifts to travel the US with evangelist, Sammy Tippit. While touring Indiana, he accepted a role as a youth pastor, helping to transform many lives. He would later establish a variety of Christian outreach ministries, including: The Rock, The House Off Broadway, Bible Study Fellowship, The Final Act, Streetlights, and more. When not establishing ministries or taking a carload of youth to a nearby concert, he led worship groups in dozens of churches.
Mike Sutton was a servant, first to God, then to the people around him. He was committed to keeping relationships intact. Not only did he stay connected across the decades with those teens from his 1970s church groups, but he continued to support the spiritual formation of them, their children… and their children's children, effectively influencing generations.
Mike also worked as a social worker for the State of IN. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, resettling in Georgia, and continued service. (You could also find him in front of a screen-- keeping up with classic TV, current movies, and political pundits.) While declining health slowed his body in recent months, nothing slowed his voracious love of God and people. Mike Sutton was an uncommon man who loved and served uncommonly. By faith we celebrate his heavenly arrival, where he will never again grow frustrated looking "everywhere" for his "doggone" sunglasses, camera, or keys.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Reverend Neal Horner and Chaplain Dan Pecaro officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
