Millie Isabel West Freeman, 84, of Atlanta, passed away January 16, 2024. She was born in Adairsville, GA on September 1, 1939, to the late Rev. John Henry and Dixie Blalock West.
She graduated from Adairsville High School and Coosa Valley Technical College.
Millie was employed as Office Supervisor at Plant Hammond by the Georgia Power Company for 25 years until early retirement, then as Vice President of Benefits America, Inc. and at Habersham Funding, LLC until her second, and final, retirement.
She was a member of Snow Springs Baptist Church in Adairsville for most of her life where she was a founder of, and led, the church choir for 30 years. Millie sat on the board of Georgia Power Northwest Credit Union in Rome for approximately three decades.
Many of you may know that Millie was accomplished artist who first found her love of painting in China artistry, then her artistic talent fully bloomed in porcelain doll making in which she became highly skilled. Doll making became her passion for years so that she was a member of and served as the President of several doll makers associations.
In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. (R.D.) Freeman, her daughter, Cynthia Freeman McBurnett, her sisters, Grace Sparks, Jerrie Swanson, Brenda Horsley and her brother, Johnny West.
Survivors include her son, M. Bryan Freeman (Herbert Buffington) of Atlanta and Rome, granddaughters, Aimee L. McBurnett and Olivia D. McBurnett, both of Atlanta, a brother, Jimmy West, as well as by many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thank you for her caregivers, Cynthia Perrymon and Hellen Wandeto.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. at the Church prior to the start of the funeral at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Funeral services will be held at Snow Springs Baptist Church, 61 Snow Springs Church Road, Adairsville, GA 30103.
Burial will be in the Church cemetery. Visitation, and a reception, will follow the burial in the church's fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Snow Springs Baptist Church, designated for the Cemetery Fund, 61 Snow Springs Church Road, Adairsville, GA 30103.
R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, 131 Summer Street, Adairsville, is in charge of arrangements.
