Min. Philip John McPherson, age 85, of 117 Hotel Street, Adairsville passed away Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013.
Mr. McPherson was born in Columbus, OH, April 14, 1927, son of the late Elmer and Dorothy Hughes McPherson. He was a veteran having served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Mr. McPherson was a graduate of the Cincinnati Bible Seminary, having ministered in Ohio, Illinois, and Alabama, before settling in Georgia in 1974 at the First Christian Church of Adairsville where he faithfully ministered for twenty-eight years before retiring in 2002. An amateur photographer, he chronicled the Great Locomotive Chase Festival for several years, but his favorite interest was his vocation, serving the Lord. He will be greatly missed by the community of Adairsville, his church, and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Winnifred McPherson and a sister, Barbara Jean Goodsell.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Penny Joann and Gary Walker of Marietta; a son and daughter-in-law, John Brooks and Lois McPherson of Adairsville; 3 grandchildren, Heather McPherson of Adairsville, Larissa McPherson of Adairsville, and Gary S. Walker, II of Atlanta; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Anna McPherson of Bellevue, WA; a sister, Christel Ross of Sykesville, MD and several nieces and nephews, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 15, 2013, at 1:00 PM from the First Christian Church, Adairsville with Min. Danny Pelfrey officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include Richard Cowart, Wayne Abernathy, Anthony Alexander, Austin Stephens, John D. Hooker, Roger Bailey, J.C. Jarrett, and Charles Freeman. David Melton, Mark Wheat, and Don Bass will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
