Mr. Oliver Richard Smith, age 84, of Smith Circle, Adairsville, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center, Rome.
Mr. Smith was born in Adairsville, Georgia, November 16, 1929, son of the late Guy Oliver Smith and Ella Maude Young Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of Snow Springs Baptist Church and a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed being in his garden, going fishing and hunting, and mostly loved spending time with his family. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his granddaughter, April Smith; 2 sisters, Margie Mae Fletcher and Dorothy Smith; 4 brothers, Edwin, Arnold, Marvin, and Doyle Smith.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Lelar Smith of Adairsville; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Weldon and Doris Smith of Fayetteville, AL, Ronny and Ann Smith of Rome, and Gary and Kim Smith of Adairsville; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Ivanet and Billy Combs of Euharlee, Ella and Merriel Landrum of Adairsville, and Ginger and Marc Knight of Adairsville; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great- grandchildren; 3 brothers, Frank (Billie Sue) Smith, Lawrence (Nancy) Smith, and Jimmy (Vera Mae) Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Snow Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Snow Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers include his grandsons, Miles Landrum, William Landrum, Gary Lee Smith, and Dustin Knight along with his sons, Weldon Smith, Ronny Smith, and Gary Smith.
The family will receive friends Saturday in the fellowship hall of Snow Springs Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, will be in charge of funeral arrangements for Mr. Oliver Richard Smith.
