Mrs. Owen Virginia Oxford, age 91, of Adairsville passed from this life on April 25, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was born in Concord, Georgia on September 4, 1922, daughter of the late John Henry and Alberta Wilkerson who preceded her in death. She married Gerald M. Oxford on April 2, 1937, who also preceded her in death in 1981. She lived the greater part of her life in Rome. Mrs. Oxford was member of Shannon First Baptist Church for 40 years before moving her letter to Adairsville Baptist Church. She was a Rome News and Atlanta Journal Constitution carrier for many years; she was also a homemaker and worked at various other jobs.

She is survived by her three daughters, and sons-in-law, Geraldine "Jerri" and Eddie Adair of Charleston, SC, Linda and Marvin Tate of Adairsville, and Virginia Brooks and Jack Courtney of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; 5 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, George Wilkerson of Monroe, GA; sister, Mary Robinson of Thomaston, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 28 2014, at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Rev. Loy Frix officiating.  Interment will follow at Floyd Memory Garden, Rome. Mark Slaughter, David McCurley, Scott Slaughter, Chris Fricks, Jack Petty, and Matthew Petty will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Barton Funeral Home, Monday                                   from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. At other hours the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Linda Tate.
