Obituary

Mr. Ralph Franklin Treadaway, 80, died at a local health care facility on Feb. 23, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born on Nov. 14, 1935, in Adairsville, Ga., son of the late William Franklin Treadaway and Irene Sawyer Treadaway.

After graduating from Adairsville High School and attending Berry College, Mr. Treadaway married Shirley Jeanette Milner on July 6, 1956. From 1957 to 1983, he and his father operated Treadaway & Son dairy farm just outside Adairsville. He later worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in Marietta, Ga. (now Lockheed Martin), and Inland-Rome in Rome, Ga. (now International Paper). He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rome.

Mr. Treadaway was an avid and insightful student of literature, history, and politics, and took great pleasure in engaging friends in lively debates on both current and historical events. He had been an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution, including participation in grave marking ceremonies for Revolutionary soldiers. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Treadaway is survived by two daughters, Luann Nelson (Mike) of Asheville, N.C., and Ella Kay Mann (Howard) of St. Simons Island, Ga.; one son, Daniel Lawson Treadaway (Eric Still) of Atlanta; two grandsons, Andrew Milner Mann and David Michael Nelson; one granddaughter, Aubrey Jordan Nelson; a brother, John F. Treadaway (Virginia) of Crossville, Tenn.; and three nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant twin brother, Raymond Treadaway.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, 131 Summer St., Adairsville, Ga. The visitation will include a Biblical wake. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 911 N. Broad St., Rome, Ga., with burial to follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Rome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Treadaway's memory to St. Mary's Catholic School, 401 E. Seventh St., Rome, Ga. Condolences may be left at bartonfuneralhome.net.
