Mr. Robert Griffin Sloan, age 65, of Connie Street, Cartersville, passed away Sunday morning, September 29, 2013 at Cartersville Medical Center.
He was born in Cartersville, GA, October 31, 1947, son of the late Benjamin Crayte and Mary Elise Griffin Sloan. Mr. Sloan was of the Baptist faith and was a U. S. Army veteran and Bronze Star recipient, having proudly served with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam Era. He owned and operated the NAPA Auto Parts store in Adairsville, from 1974 until his retirement in 2008. Mr. Sloan was an avid NASCAR fan, liked fishing, vacationing at his cabin in Blue Ridge, where he could be found relaxing on the porch or strolling in his golf cart, and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jimmy Sloan, and a sister, Mary Stepp.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Gail Sloan of Cartersville; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Carla Sloan of White, Jeff and Brandy Sloan of Cartersville, and Darrin and Melissa Sloan of Rockmart; 4 grandchildren, Carter, Avery, Brianne, and Bailey Sloan; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Nell and Wade Ash of Powder Springs; mother and father-in-law, Dalton and Hazel Pinson of Cartersville; brother-in-law, Jimmy Stepp; sister-in-law, Zondra Sloan; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Rev. Benny Thomas and Rev. Jim Pinkard officiating. Interment will follow in Cassville Cemetery, with full military grave rites.
Pallbearers include John Wilson, David Martin, Bobby Flemmons, Allen Dover, Larry Edwards, Donnie Mealor, John Kent, and David Edwards.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
