Mrs. Ruth Hammonds Hardman, age 70, of Dallas formerly of Adairsville, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Atrium Floyd Hospital with her loved ones at her side.

Ruth was born in Rome, GA, June 14, 1955, to the late and Ellen Newton Hammonds and Franklin Monroe Hammonds. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Mark Rainer Hammonds and son, John Hardman.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 28 years, Roger Hardman; daughter, Jessica Zickefoose; grandchildren, Diana Zickefoose and Stefan Zickefoose; sister, Joyce and Steve Cooper; nephew, Michael Cooper; brother-in-law, Steve Hardman; and sister-in-law, Sherry Wilson.

Ruth was a loving and caring lady whose life was defined by service to others, dedication to her community, and a deep love for family and friends. Raised in Adairsville, Ruth attended Adairsville High School before continuing her education at Georgia Highlands College and Georgia State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She began her career with the Adairsville Police Department as a dispatcher, and through hard work and determination, ascending through the ranks, ultimately attaining the position of Chief of Police, one of the first to hold the office as a female in the state. Ruth also faithfully served her community as a member of the Adairsville City Council. Later in life, she worked as a paralegal with the Wade Everett Law Firm in Cartersville, a role she truly enjoyed. While living in Martinsburg, WV, with her beloved husband, Roger, the two spent countless hours volunteering at the Battle of Antietam battlefield, sharing a passion for history. Upon returning to Georgia, Ruth and Roger made their home in Dallas, where she became a member of Dallas First United Methodist Church and also served as church secretary for several years and was deeply involved in the River of Life summer mission program. Ruth had a passion for travel and adventure, whether a cruise ship, train, bus tour, or spontaneous weekend getaway. She also loved genealogy and discovering her family’s history, cheering on the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, supporting the Republican Party, and playing Pokemon GO. Above all, Ruth was a wonderful woman who loved people wholeheartedly.
