Mr. Richard Sammy Smith, age 65, of 3136 New Rosedale Road, Calhoun, GA, passed away September 3, 2011 at Emory Healthcare, Atlanta.

He was born in Adairsville, GA, October 26, 1945, son of the late Edward Bradley and Louise Sherffield Smith. Mr. Smith had attended Floyd Springs United Methodist Church, Armuchee, and retired from BellSouth after thirty-eight years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and tending to his farm, where he raised, among other animals, goats, sheep, turkey, emu, and spitting llama.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy Lee Smith of Calhoun; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sabrina Smith of Collierville, TN; a grandson, Tucker Richard Smith; a sister, Linda Scott of Kennesaw; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Sharon Smith of Calhoun; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 3:30 PM at Floyd Springs United Methodist Church, Armuchee, with Rev. Lillian Hertel and Rev. Carl Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in Oothcalooga Baptist Church Cemetery, Adairsville. The body will lie in state at the church from 2:30 PM until the funeral hour. Jason Meek, Tommy Meek, Greg Scott, Wesley Scott, Russell Smith, and Brad Scott will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
