Mrs. Sarah Dee Hayes Edwards, age 100, of Joe Frank Harris Parkway, Adairsville, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at her residence.
She was born in Adairsville, GA, October 13, 1915, daughter of late Jess and Oma Argo Hayes. Mrs. Edwards was the oldest member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She retired from Kuhlman's drapery department where she was employed for 38 years as a supervisor, and also worked at Lockheed Martin for three and half years. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Eastern Star chapter 306 Adairsville for fifty four years, San Souci Women's Club, the Red Hat Society, and also the Cora Harris Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-two years, Leonard Arrell Edwards who passed away in 1982; sisters, Beulah Sparks, Bertha King, Gladys King, Louise Thurman; brother, Edgar Hayes.
Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Melvin and Mary Edwards and Bobby and Barbara Edwards; three granddaughters, Kelly Carver, Jill Edwards, and Felicia Brown; two grandsons, Bob Edwards and Gabe Edwards; sisters, Jessie Hill and Christine Fortenberry; nine great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and 12 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, at 2:00 PM from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Ministers Jim Pinkard and Brent Tatum officiating. The body will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Bob Edwards, Gabe Edwards, Larry Carver, Shane Garner, Evan King and Carter Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
