Mr. Stephen Roy Elrod, age 54, of Birmingham, Alabama, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in Birmingham.
Mr. Elrod was born in Trion, GA, September 3, 1957, son of the late Roy Elrod and Mary Frances Elrod Darby. Stephen graduated from Adairsville High School, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Freed Hardeman College in Tennessee, and a Master's Degree from Abilene Christian College in Texas. He worked at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama for 20 years, where he taught in the drama department and was very active in community theaters and choral groups over the years. He was also very active in raising money for many charitable organizations and was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Susan Horn and a nephew, Andy Ormeroid.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Fran Elrod of Cartersville; a sister, Nancy D. Ormeroid of Calhoun; 4 nephews, Kirk and Joy Brown of Chatsworth, Eddie and Amanda Brown of Chatsworth, Christopher and Wendy Ormeroid of Calhoun, and Todd Elrod of Long Beach, California.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Barton Funeral Home with Min. Steve McCaslin, Min. John Podein, and Min. Bobby Gayton officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
